Is it fair?
That is a question I often ask when it comes to politics, and somehow, it trickles down to the rest of society when it is ok for marginalized groups to feel powerless and voiceless.
The topic of a minimum wage is once again being discussed. Some prefer some Singaporeans to live in abject poverty so they can live well. I don’t get how some Singaporeans feel that it is ok to increase the salaries of ministers to an exorbitant amount, and think that that does not cost Singapore anything, but when it comes to the poorest Singaporeans, having a minimum wage is a no-no as it “may” increase the prices of everything.
Wage is but only a small portion of the cost of running a business. Just because we have a union that does not seem to fight for the rights of workers, it does not mean businesses should continue to exploit workers. To talk about costs, did you know that the price of motorcycle has been increasing? Yes, I’m talking about the arbitrary reduction of motorcycle quotas, causing COE prices to spike up, and today, the Motorcycle COE us $7702. LTA has been trying to raise taxes on motorcycles to “keep” the COE down, but sadly, they think that increasing taxes will make things cheaper.
