Anti-heroes have gained popularity today and in life, not everything is black and white. You always have to make decisions that are tough and affect others. Sometimes these decisions may benefit many but have adverse impacts on others.
Living to be a hero is hard and in many ways a lot more stressful. Trying to do the right thing at all times, even when it is harmful to yourself and your loved ones? It is an unrealistic expectation both from oneself and others. The pressure of always doing the right thing, making self-sacrifices, and being a beacon of virtue can be overwhelming.
Heroes are often faced with moral dilemmas and ethical challenges. Navigating these can be mentally and emotionally draining. There are also personal sacrifices that are needed, and together with a lack of recognition, it can be disheartening and lead to burnout.
Even with the best intentions, the outcome may be unpredictable. There is always a constant fear of failure when you are on the path of a hero, and it is often a lonely path.
Heroes are also often seen as flawless, and this itself makes being a hero unattainable as everyone has flaws and makes mistakes. The pressure to live up to unrealistic standards is often stressful and detrimental to one’s mental well-being.
