Rapid & Immersive Skill Enhancement (RISE)

6-month SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme designed to build high-demand business and digital skills. Placement assistance provided.

What this means is that this is a full time 6 month program to help jobless working professionals get business and digital skills which is much needed in the industry today. On the plus side, since this is a SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme, participants are provided a $1,500 training allowance every month during the course.

  1. How much does it cost?

This course costs more than $20,000 but it is heavily subsidized, and skillsfuture credits can be used to pay the remaining $500 of the course fees after subsidies.

2. How is the course like?

  • Programme taught by global BCG & industry practitioners
  • Heavy focus on application and experience-based learning
  • Industry networks and peer mentorship

During the course, there are various BCG consultants that train us in their specific fields like Human Centered Design, SCRUM, Business Analytics and how to start a Digital Transformation Project.

We learn about the roles of a Product Owner and Scrum master and indeed, industry practitioners are part of the course. However, not all these practitioners can teach. Some are fantastic at their work, but boring as hell when they do their training.

3. Career workshops and recruiting events

Yes, BCG does run these regularly and students need to do a monthly retrospection on the progress. We are told that there are a lot of jobs in the market and there is high demand for digital transformation, yet for much of the cohort, the ones that are hired — many of them returned to their industry, but this may be due to the fact that they did not complete the program.

For those who completed the program, many of us would have the required skills, probably a little bit of experience as we applied what we learned in the Hackathon and Capstone project with industry partners, but that was about it. I’ve seen many job descriptions that require years of digital transformation experience and when I applied for these jobs, I did not even get a response.
