Contact Tracing is Good, but Urgency towards COVID-19 is lacking. #Singapore
I am quite impressed with how there is so much effort displaying the clusters and showing the cases visually. I must applaud the medical staffs’ efforts in working hard in this time despite the risks involved.
However, it seemed that the government’s lax attitude towards the crisis seemed to have rubbed off to the population.
DORSCON Orange was declare in Singapore on Feb 7, and there was panic buy in the supermarkets, but it quickly calmed down. Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee informed public not to wear masks unless they are sick and across Singapore, People’s Association held several CNY Dinner with hundreds of people attending. Chingay also continued.
The Singapore Airshow continued despite many companies pulling out, and of course, we had a big event in SAFRA and luckily, this seemed to be the only event that had spread the virus and we now could trace it to the event.
There was a private dinner held at the SAFRA Jurong on 15 February this year (8 days after DORSCON Orange was declared) and unfortunately, for this 600 people event, 17 were infected.
I believe that some churches are starting mass again, and I’ve seen crowds at shopping malls again.
