I worked in many companies on sustainability and recently with many B Corp certified companies, I’ve discovered a lot of new and innovative business models.
I’ve worked with many social enterprises in the past, many of them have a “mission”, however, the operations and actual impact are often unclear, and when not measured, this “mission” is often a goal that the company is sort of moving towards. Sometimes they get there, but most of the times, it is a dream that they just want to achieve.
In B Corp, instead of looking into just good operation models, many B Corp companies have good Impact Business Models (IBM).
IBMs are specific business models designed to create positive social and/or environmental impact beyond the basic operational impact of the business.
IBMs focus on the specific business outcomes that are created for specific stakeholders of the business, including employees, customers, communities, and the environment, and are marked by intentional systems of intensive management and measurements of outcomes.
There are a few types of IBMs:
- Beneficial products and services
- Internal Models
- Value Chain Models
- Etc.
