Lack of Hindsight… or Incompetence

Over the years, I have worked in various countries' leaders in various companies on innovation and pivoting. For projects in which I am not a domain expert, but I have deep knowledge, I’ve brought in the experts which have given deep insights and a clear understanding of the problem statement, before offering a myriad of solutions.

Sadly, in half quite a several cases with “highly connected” leaders who are family members or “close friends”, the result is always the same. Consultants are hired, solutions are provided, but the implementation of the solutions is weak at best.

For an international sports event, to promote it well, the consultants suggested using various key players, highlighting their struggles and success stories to inspire people to follow them. Local advertising and the standard blasting of traditional advertisements on local channels and infrastructure will not attract international attention, and when public funds are used on this, it becomes a pet project to add to the glory and achievements, but little impact is created to help to brand.

Some of these large organizations do have the funding to pay for top consultants, and the solutions were clear and easy to implement, but these organizations may have already their “solutions” with their “preferred partners”, so these new solutions that are paid for are generally…
