Living in a post truth world

There are times where I really wonder what happened in the US? Why would people believe that the earth in flat when everything the see in the sky is round.

When Pythagoras can look at the shadow of a stick and think if a spherical Earth, we have people who look at the photos of earth and think that it is fake.

It is sad that beliefs and opinions today can trump facts. We live in a world where experts are dismissed and alternative facts flagrantly offered. Then back in Singapore, there is a whole other level of creating alternative facts, and having a law that prevent others from doing so.

Yes, we now have a Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act(POFMA) law in Singapore. This POFMA is an Act to prevent the electronic communication in Singapore of false statements of fact, to suppress support for and counteract the effects of such communication, to safeguard against the use of online accounts for such communication and for information manipulation, to enable measures to be taken to enhance transparency of online political advertisements, and for related matters.

To me initially, this looks pretty good. During the last election, there were rumors created about Workers’ Party mismanaging town council funds. On 8 Sep 2015 just 3 days before 2015 GE, People’s Action Party candidate for Punggol East Charles…
