I’ve been to a few this week, and this is what I think.
I have always loved going to Pasar Malam, until of course — Singapore killed it.
Pasar Malam, also known as night markets is a good place to learn more about the culture, food and snacks of a city. I love going to Pasar Malam until Singapore decided to charge high “rents” for the spaces which makes Pasar Malam dull and expensive as all the normal food you expect from a Pasar Malam cannot be expected to bring in enough profits to cover rents, so they became the same prices as the mall around them.
Lucky for Singaporeans, Malaysia still has reasonable Pasar Malams.
Over the last week, I’ve been to open bazaars and Pasar Malams in Malaysia and it is definitely worth the trip. Some are good, and some are “for locals” and let me share the difference.
