Motorcycle categories in Singapore — a bit outdated? LTA… please move towards the future.
I have been riding a motorcycle in Singapore since 1993 and there are 3 classes of bikes, 2B, 2A and class 2.
There are many benefits of having such a system, as it takes a year of passing each stage before you can get to the next level, which can translate to 1 year of riding experience before you handle a bigger bike.
In the past, it makes sense. Class 2B Riding up to 200cc bike means you bike is generally small, and you can ride most scooters, enough for you to get around the city.
When you have Class 2A, you can ride up to 400cc motorcycles which can be considerably more powerful than the 200cc motorcycle.
And after another year of experience, you can then take Class 2 lessons to ride any motorcycle.
It all make sense in the past when technology is developing and motorcycles still have drum brakes, but for today, many things have changed.
