Pay for Entitlement

It seems like everyone is in a rush to get places. When you drive on the road at the speed limit, there will be a car tailgating you within a minute.

Certificate of Entitlement (COE) gives you the right to own and use a vehicle in Singapore. And yes, money can buy your right to the entitlement for 10 years.

How much does it cost?

Well, it changes twice a month.

In Oct 2023, the right to own a 1,600cc or 130bhp, or 110kW car is S$146,002 or US$106,899. Yup, you got it right, this is excluding the vehicle price which already has one of the highest prices in the world.

The new 2023 Toyota Prius Hybrid from a parallel importer would cost S$210,000, and you can drive it in Singapore for 10 years.

So, what can you do with the US$106,899, if you were to live in the US?

Perhaps a Japanese car? Lexus LC500 at US$92,500?

A base model Porsche 911 for US$98,000?
