We have a lot of initiative to support disasters, and for the longest time, we tried to end poverty. With billions poured in every year, why are more people going into poverty?
We have thought about using microfinance in the past, then we look at social entrepreneurship. We constantly jump on new ideas without evaluating giving a lot of these programs the support they need.
Funding goes to big organizations with marketing budgets, they apply the same solution that succeed in one community to all their communities. As different communities may have different needs, most of these large organizations have limited success in tackling the problem.
The problems we face that have not been solved are often complex, and we cannot focus on one aspect alone.
When you focus on giving shoes to the shoeless, it solves one aspect of their problem and we need more collaborations to work on the other problems the community face.
With technology, we may have a higher chance to fix a lot of the problems, but as climate change intensifies, our problems are compounded.
Modern problems require modern solutions.
Maybe not that, but we do need solutions for the problems we face, and I do feel that it does not need to scale up to be big. We just need other communities to work on their own solutions as well. We need many ground up solutions to work together and solve the problems we face.
