I’ve been to this place more than once. And most of the time, I have brought friends as well. Sadly, my experience was never good there.
From my first visit when it just opened, I was confused on the name: Urban Hawker. Do the people in New York know anything about the name? Does it even say “Singapore”?
There are some news about this, but most people whom I know in New York City don’t seem to know about this place nor search for News on Singapore food.
Unlike most Americans, Singaporeans are always excited about Singaporean food and will be interested in trying the possibly “Americanized” versions of the food, however, any Singaporean will be shocked by the prices here as they are significantly higher compared to even the ridiculous prices in Singapore.
I would say, for them, price is just an excuse to complain. In Singapore, it is common to pay over $100 for Chilli crab, and it only costs US$58.50 here!
The main issue I have with this place is that I do not recognize the food and the stalls.
