One thing for sure, 2020 is a memorable year for me. The pandemic has changed many things, but it also gave me a lot of time to reflect on my goals. There was a lot of time to focus on “self” without much distraction.
I had a lot of thoughts on how the pandemic would pan out. Initially, if it was a global pandemic, it might become a reset where we can change the things we do. We could create less waste, grow local, eat local, and be more appreciative of nature. Unnecessary travel would be eliminated, and we can use more renewable energy — I was wrong.
I had 2 months of homegrown vegetables to consume at the start of the pandemic. Still, after 2 months, when the shops are open again, I had many takeaway foods and observed that the waste generated far exceeds what I normally generate. One thing for sure, there is an extra piece of mask which I use, and even when I started using disposable ones later, many of these masks come in plastic bags, and they do not last that long as well.
In Singapore, I expect that perhaps the rich will suffer financial loss due to the pandemic, and they may be financially affected as they hold shares and other bonds. I saw the REITs getting hit hard during the pandemic, but true enough, the billions spent by the government seemed not to reach the people but end up supporting the wealthy.
