What’s new for 2021 — CTV and OTT (Advertising)

I’ve noticed a few big trends coming on, and after talking to my other friends in the marketing and advertising industry, I’ve encountered some new trends which will definitely continue in 2021.

As you know, the pandemic caused many companies to rethink their business strategies. This has also accelerated the growth of their digital strategies, and companies are trying to find new ways to get noticed online.

If you are not very familiar with digital marketing, let me introduce the 2 terms to you.

CTV — Connected TV

With the popularity of smart TV, more people are consuming their entertainment on their connected TV. They watch Netflix, YouTube, and other programs on their TV via WiFi.

So how does this affect you?

Well, if you are trying to reach a specific demographic, you can now target them with ads on their connected TV. CTV advertising in particular will grow rapidly in the US and European markets.

OTT — over-the-top

OTT refers to the streaming services that go directly to your devices (e.g. mobile). OTT bypasses cable, broadcast, and satellite television platforms, the companies that traditionally act as a controller or distributor of such content.
