When will Singapore have a non-Chinese prime minister?

It is 2021 and are we still divided by race?

To me, the answer is very clear. From the 2020 election results, Singaporeans voted in support of Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Pritam Singh.

In fact, there are so many unknowns in Tharman’s team that I’ve asked more than 20 people who live in Jurong to name 3 other candidates other than Tharman in that team, and none of the 20 people can remember their names.

So, one of my takeaways from the 2020 General Election is that Singapore did progress quite a bit and Singaporeans don’t really look at race when they elect their officials.

There is no doubt that Tharman is well-loved and respected by most Singaporeans, with many even calling for him to be the next PM. So, the question of “When will PAP be ready for a non-Chinese prime minister?” actually would have to be answered by Lee Hsien Loong.

As for me, the results of the 2020 elections are quite clear. The minorities are indeed supporting their teams to victory in the elections, and the one burning question that I would like to ask is, “Can we abolish the GRC system?”

It is clear, Singaporeans have progressed to a point that we do not vote by race.
